…emerge Head Girls during each set, as one wins UBA Foundation prize

Unprecedented feats have been recorded at the famous Federal Government Girls College (FGGC), Ikot Obio Itong, Mkpat Enin Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State as three siblings became Head Girls each at their respective sets.

According to the Principal of the School, Mrs. Ann A. Ajisafe, by their sterling academic performances, Paul Otongs have done not only the school proud, but the government and people of Akwa Ibom State.

According to the school records, Miss Aniebiet Paul Otong was the school’s Head Girl during the 2017/2018 Session, while Miss Emediong and Miss Usungobong Paul Otong had their reigns during 2019/2020 and 2023/2024 sessions, respectively.

Our paper further gathered that Usungobong Paul Otong, also won the National UBA Essay Competition organized last year (2023) by the UBA Foundation, bringing the honors home and doing their State of origin – Akwa Ibom, proud.

At Miss Usungobong’s graduation ceremony held yesterday, Saturday, 27th July, 2024, at the prestigious FGGC, Ikot Obio Itong, she and her siblings were celebrated by the school specifically for their sterling academic performances. The school management noted with pride what they described as enviable track record since the history of Federal Government Girls College.

The principal noted, “It is uncommon to find such records, three siblings becoming Head Girls in each of their sets. They are worthy ambassadors and role models for other students, not only in FGGC, but also in Akwa Ibom State and Nigeria.”

It was further learnt that Miss Usungobong, who is the last to graduate from the school is looking forward to gaining admission into the university to study Medicine and Surgery. Aniebiet, the first to finish from the school has already graduated from the Department of Architecture in the University of Uyo, while Emediong is a 400 level student of Biochemistry.

Some respondents who spoke to our correspondent on the sidelines of the graduation ceremony averred that the feats showed that Akwa Ibom girls aren’t wayward, noting that children from the state aren’t house helps, et’al, as hitherto believed, but excellent people with many bright and enviable possibilities.

While congratulating the parents and wishing the brilliant kids more academic successes in their future, our respondents further canvassed for special recognition by the State Government. They stressed that their kind of record was a plus to the ARISE Agenda of the State governor, His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno.
