…as stakeholders seek Akpabio, Enwang, Enang, Etiebet, ors’ intervention

By our correspondents

Following the crisis that rocked yesterday’s conduct of Ward Congress of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom State, Chapter Caretaker Chairmen of the party in the state have passed a vote of no confidence on the State Caretaker Committee Chairman, Dr. Ita Udosen, and subsequently suspended him.

The APC Chapter Caretaker Chairmen who made this known at a press briefing held yesterday at Shelter Afrique, Uyo, accused Dr. Ita Udosen, whom they addressed as ‘immediate-past State Caretaker Chairman’, of “reducing himself to the position of the Governorship Campaign Coordinator for Sen John James Akpanudoedehe”.

In a text of press conference which was signed by eighteen (18), out of thirty-one Chapter Caretaker Chairmen in the state and read on their behalf by the Chapter Caretaker Chairman for Ikot Abasi, Mr Ubong Ekpo; Mr. Edidiong Idio, Chapter Caretaker Chairman for Etim Ekpo, was announced as the State Caretaker Chairman.

The factional State Caretaker Chairman, is to henceforth, oversee the conduct of congresses as well as overall running of the APC in the state pending the election of a substantive State Chairman for the party.

Earlier, concerned Stakeholders of the APC had called on leaders of the party in Akwa Ibom state to rise to the occasion by ensuring that all members are united for the purposes of forging a common goal that would culminate in victory, come 2023.

In a press statement read on behalf of other stakeholders by Barr. Mfon Udeme, a former Chairman of Ibiono Ibom local government area, the APC stakeholders bemoaned alleged impunity within the party.

The statement reads “This press briefing has become imperative due to the desperate antics of Dr Ita Udosen led APC Caretaker Committee to dance to the tune of his paymaster in the person of Senator John Udoedehe.

“Unfortunately, the wrong combination of the desperation of Ita Udosen /Udoedehe assumed feverish dimension in the build up to the ward and has eventually snowballed into full blown crisis leading to massive protest and shutting down of the APC State Secretariat in the early hours of Saturday, July, 31st, 2021.

In the light of the foregoing, may we draw attention to the following:

“We call on President Muhammedu Buhari in his capacity as the Leader of the party in Nigeria to call to order the Akwa Ibom APC Caretaker Committee Chairman,Dr Ita Udosen who has shamelessly been operating as though he is a domestic staff of Senator John Udoedehe.

“We unanimously reject in totality the deployment of Senator John Udoedehe’s man Friday and apologist, Mallam Shehu Sheriff from Abuja to superintend over the conduct of ward Congress in Akwa Ibom State.Recall that the same Shehu  Sheriff  was the same  fellow who, on Udoedehe’s bidding, was drafted to Akwa Ibom during the APC membership revalidation exercise and his ignoble activities led to disenfranchisement of very many APC faithful in the state.

“In furtherance to their blatant impunity, the Dr Ita Udosen led APC Caretaker Committee in concert with the Shehu Sherrif  delegation purported to appoint ward Congress Committee members for the conduct of the party congress with100% of the so-called Committee members drawn from Udoedehe’s campaign/support group. This is totally unacceptable

“Information is rife that premeditated results have been prepared for onward submission even when  they did conduct  the party congress did not take place anywhere in the 329 wards of Akwa Ibom State.

“There is apparently a deliberate attempt by the Ita Udosen led Caretaker Committee to cause disunity and disaffection in the APC family in the State. The massive protest by party members and the shutting down of the APC Secretariat speak volumes about the ineptitude of the Akwa Ibom APC Caretaker Committee.

“We therefore call on the Leaders of the party, His Excellency, Senator Godswill Akpabio, Minister of Niger Delta, His Excellency, Sam Ewang, Distinguished Senator Ita Enang and others to rise to the occasion and take charge of the processes to ensure that all the party members, stakeholders and other leaders are united to forge a common ground in order to unite the party for victory come 2023 general elections”
