The Speaker of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Aniekan Bassey has commiserated with the family of late Colonel Ededet Bassey whose remains were committed to earth today.

Speaking at the family compound of the deceased in Ikot Otoinyie, Uruan Local Government Area, the Speaker recalled the positive virtues and contributions of the retired army officer to his village and the local government area, describing late Colonel Ededet Bassey as a legendary soldier and a community leader who lived his life serving his immediate community, the local government area and the nation as a whole.

“I am here to condole you on the passing on to glory of your beloved husband and patriarch of the Bassey family, whose exit has created a huge gap in your family.
He lived a life worthy of emulation and committed himself totally to the service of this Ikot Otoinyie community, Uruan Local Government Area, our dear state and the nation generally.
We will surely miss him and his wise counsel,” he further stated.

While praying God to grant the soul of the departed retired army officer eternal repose, Speaker Bassey urged God to grant those he left behind the fortitude to bear his loss and the vacuum his death has created in the family, the community and the state.

Until his retirement from the military, late Colonel Bassey had served the Nigerian Army in many capacities under different formations, and was a staunch member and a Knight of the Catholic Church.

He was also a former Transition Chairman of Uruan Local Government Council as well as a former Chairman of the Fertilizer Procurement Unit in Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Agriculture.

In her response, the wife of the departed soldier, Mrs Theresa Ededet Bassey appreciated the Speaker for coming to commiserate with the family in its trying times, thanking him for his solidarity and love for the family.

She invoked the blessings of God on the Speaker and prayed God to continue to imbue him with more wisdom to continue to pilot the affairs of the 7th Assembly.
