The Akwa Ibom Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps led by the Sector Commander, Corps Commander OS Ochi today paid a courtesy visit to the Honourable Commissioner for Education, Akwa Ibom State, Prof. Nse Essien in his office.
Addressing the Commissioner, Corps Commander OS Ochi disclosed that his visit was to officially intimate him of his resumption of duties as the new Corps Commander in the State and sue for collaboration.
“I consider it a privilege to be here.
In any of the States we go, the Ministry of Education is always our closest ally. I strongly feel there is a need for me to come and greet you and inform you of my official resumption of schedule”, he said.
He appreciated the Commissioner for the level of cooperation given to the command in the State. The Sector Commander enumerated some of the programmes of the command to include students outreaches, catch them young programme and various educational competitions and expressed optimism that with the Commissioner’s level of experience and knowledge, so much will be achieved under his watch.
He reiterated the need for the establishment of road safety clubs in Akwa Ibom schools and appealed for more support from government in the area of safety orientation to students and promised to regularly interface with the Ministry in the area of public enlightenment and safety of the lives of children on our roads. OS Ochi expressed the desire of the command to reduce the number of road traffic accidents in the State through proper education and enlightenment.
In his response, the Education Boss, Prof. Nse Essien welcomed the team and expressed his happiness at their visit. He commended the road safety for playing a key role in society and saving lives by assisting in checking reckless driving and other traffic offenses over the years. He assured them that upon resumption of schools, steps will be taken to inaugurate the road safety clubs in schools across the State, as it will contribute immensely in helping to inculcate the right values in students. He encouraged them to continue with their good works while assuring them of his support at all times.
The Corps Commander thereafter presented a revised edition of the Nigeria Highway Code to the Honourable Commissioner.
