An Akwa Ibom girl, Private Blessing Akpan has broken the record to become the first Gold Medalist at the ongoing Africa Military Games holding at the MKO Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory.
According to a tweet on the official X App (formerly Twitter) handle of the Nigerian Army, Blessing came from behind to win Gold in the 100m Hurdles.
The statement reads “Private Blessing Akpan of the AMGA2024 made history for Nigeria at the ongoing Africa Military Games by becoming the country’s first GOLD medallist in Track and Field at the event, coming from behind to win GOLD in the 100m Hurdles.
She clocked 15.51s to finish ahead of Ghana’s Stephanie Abu (15.54s). Another personnel Private Stella Ogu took the Bronze”.
The African Military sporting event codenamed AMGA2024 began on 18th November, and will run through 30th November, 2024.
Speaking at its commencement, the Chief of Defence Staff, General CG Musa, had expressed the Defence Headqarter’s Full Readiness to Host The Largest African Military Sporting Event.
