…over 5000 patients to be attended to

The General Hospital, Ikot Ekpene will witness a beehive of activities starting today, Monday, March 11, 2024 following commencement of the Akwa Ibom State Free Medical and Surgical Outreach, a medical intervention initiative by His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno.

Recall that a similar outreach was held in Uyo last month where thousands of residents and indigenes benefitted from the exercise.

Following its success and yearning by the people, the Governor extended the Medical Outreach to Ikot Ekpene and Eket Senatorial districts.

Ahead of the commencement of the exercise, a total of two hundred and forty medical volunteers have been selected from the eight hundred and seventy-three that applied for the job.

Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Medicals, Dr. Ekem John said over 5,000 patients will be attended to during the five day medical and surgery outreach.

Dr. John said the volunteers include Professors, Consultants, Nurses, Pharmacists, Doctors and other medical workers.

Ikot Ekpene General Hospital is adjacent the police station.

The hospital was established on 4/9/1904 as a secondary healthcare institution, put into use, renovated and commissioned for use by the Former President, Good luck Jonathan in October 2021 as part of the campaign promises of the then Governor, Udom Emmanuel.

The components of the hospital renovation include, a newly constructed Administration Block, Emergency Unit, Out-Patient Department, a new power generating set and solar energy machines, male wards, female wards, theatres, ultrasound, X-rays and pediatrics unit.

The Medical and Surgery Outreach in Ikot Ekpene ends on Friday, March 15, 2024.
