The Member-elect for Etinan, Nsit Ibom, Nsit Ubium Federal Constituency; Obong Paul Ekpo has lost his wife to the cold hands of death. She died today, Sunday, April 30, 2023 after an illness.

As at the time of this report, the cause of Mrs. Paul Ekpo’s death was not officially disclosed but sources cloe to the bereaved family confided in The Profile Newspaper that “…she was suffering from an undisclosed ailment”.

Obong Paul Ekpo, who was elected on February 25, 2023 to represent Etinan, Nsit Ibom, Nsit Ubium Federal Constituency at the Green Chamber of the National Assembly, Abuja, is a former State Chairman of the ruling Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP). He is reputed for being the longest serving State Chairman of the PDP. He was one time the Chairman of the PDP State Chairmen.

Ekpo, prior to his emergence as House of Representatives Member-elect had served as Chairman, State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) under the administration of the outgoing government of His Excellency, Mr. Udom Gabriel Emmanuel.

The Etinan-born politician was also Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in Akwa Ibom State under the then Governor; Chief Godswill Obot Akpabio (now Senator-elect for Akwa Ibom Northwest Senatorial District).

Before settling for the 2023 House of Representatives contest, Obong Paul Ekpo had earlier sought to represent the Akwa Ibom Northeast (Uyo) Senatorial District at the Red Chamber of the National Assembly, only to jettison same reportedly on the promoting of the outgoing governor.

Our paper also gathered that the late Mrs. Ekpo, who originally hailed from Baylesa state, was until her demise, a Senior Staff member of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN).
