Prof. A. A Zuru, former Vice Chancellor of Usman Danfodio University, Sokoto who was sent to Adamawa state by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as part of team of Supervisors for yesterday’s governorship Rerun in the state, have been attacked allegedly by hoodlums suspected to be political thugs.

His attackers, preliminary investigations reveal may have mistaken him for Adamawa State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC); Hudu Yunusa, who had earlier reportedly declared the Governorship Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC); Aishatu Dahiru (Binani) winner of the 2023 governorship election while collation was still ongoing.

Meanwhile, Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo, says the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has nullified the declaration which returned Aishatu Dahiru (Binani) as Adamawa governor-elect.

Keyamo, who made this known in a tweet on his verified Twitter handle on Sunday, said the collation of the Adamawa governorship election results has also been suspended.

He said : “Update: following the earlier reports by the media of Binani’s declaration, I have just been informed of the position of INEC nullifying (for now) the declaration and suspending the collation process. We will therefore await further action by INEC.”

The All Progressives Congress chieftain had earlier congratulated Binani for emerging winner in the poll in an earlier tweet.

He had said :” Just woke up in the US to this wonderful news. I am screaming my head off here! This is such a glass-shattering watershed for the women of Nigeria! Huge congratulations to my sister, Senator Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed (Binani). At a point in the struggle we were speaking like a dozen times a day on phone! Special thanks to all those who worked so hard for this; special thanks to the good people of Adamawa State for smashing this hoodoo of gender bias; special thanks to the APC for making this possible; special thanks to President Muhammadu Buhari for providing such sterling leadership; special thanks to Nigerians for your support and prayers! Now, for the women of Nigeria, please go ye forth and conquer!”
