Christians across Akwa Ibom state have been advised to abide by directives of the State Government that all social gatherings, including Church worships, should be suspended for fourteen days in the state.
The advice was handed down by the Akwa Ibom State Chairman of Christian Association Nigeria, CAN, Dr. Ndueso Ekwere, in a message he sent to Christians in the state via his social media handles.
Ekwere, whose message, according to him, followed a reply he got from the Secretary to State Government, SSG, in his effort to see whether worshippers could have service at least in tens, to pray to God on the prevailing circumstance, admonished them to have family devotions.
The message reads: “Beloved Christians in Akwa Ibom state, above (referring to SSG’s message) is the most recent message from the SSG on my effort inquiring to see how churches can meet even in tens to pray to God on this matter.
“Please, let’s abide accordingly. It’s actually temporary.
Encourage your members to have devotion and pray in their families to the God who answers prayers. The owner of the church will spare His own”.
It could be recalled that Akwa Ibom state Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, a fortnight ago, announced a total lockdown in the state as a measure to fight the spread of the novel Corona Virus, popularly called Covid-19.
The Nigerian Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, had announced that five persons in the state have tested positive for the virus.
