…as LG Council farm records bumper harvest

Chairman of Etinan Local Government Council, Hon. Uko Umoh has called on indigenes of the LGA to take to farming, pledging the full support of the Council in order to actualize food sufficiency.

Hon. Uko who spoke earlier today, Monday on the sidelines of melon harvest at the Demonstration Farm located within the vicinity of the local government Secretariat, lauded the Akwa Ibom state governor, Pastor Umo Eno for prioritizing food security by encouraging massive farming in the state.

While acknowledging the import of farming amidst current food crisis in the country, the Council Boss noted that the governor’s encouragement has started yielding dividends.

“On behalf of the government and people of Etinan Local Government Area, I want to thank the Almighty God for a bountiful harvest we have witnessed today. I will not fail at this juncture to sincerely appreciate His Excellency, Governor Umo Eno for prioritizing food security in the state. By this bountiful harvest of melon today, the Governor is vindicated.

It is quite impressive and a pointer to the fact that if everyone would hearken to the clarion call by His Excellency that we should all go back to farming, there’ll certainly be availability of food for all”.

Noting that more crops would be harvested in due course from the Demonstration Farm and other farms cultivated through the Council’s support across the LGA, Hon. Uko Umoh further urged Etinan people to take advantage of the second planting season to produce more food.

“Today, we were harvesting the melon that we planted a few months ago and very soon, we’ll be harvesting other farm produce. It is part of our mandate to encourage and support our people to go into farming in order to ensure food security.

In few weeks time, we are going into the second planting season popularly called late planting. I want to advise everyone to take advantage of this second planting season so that we could have more food in line with the vision of His Excellency”, the Chairman said.
