The Village Head of Mbiabong Ikot Antem, Etoi Clan in Uyo local government area of Akwa Ibom state, Eteidung (Apostle) Essien Solomon Essien, has dissociated himself from a news report where he was allegedly quoted to have made comments regarding the ongoing process of electing a Clan Head for Etoi Clan.

Eteidung Essien in a rebuttal he personally signed, noted that neither was he interviewed by any journalist on any issue relating to Etoi Clan Headship nor his opinion sought before such publication was made.

The Traditional father, who is also the Secretary, Etoi Clan Council, while admitting knowledge of ongoing process to elect a new Clan Head for his Clan, denied knowledge of any plan by anyone, whosoever, to ‘prevent’ the planned upcoming Clan Head election, let alone, going to press to divulge same.

Parts of the rebuttal dated 14th April, 2021, read thus: “My attention has been drawn to a publication in The Post Mid-Week, a local tabloid in its Vol. 13. No. 99, Friday 9th April, 2021, edition, with a front-page caption to wit: “Heads may roll in Etoi Clan as Clan Head election cancelled *Threats to(sic) violence, intimidation may mar exercise”.

“The concocted story which is published on page 11 of the said paper, fictitiously suggested that I, Eteidung (Apostle) Essien Solomon Essien was interviewed and I ‘responded’, making allegations against the Acting Chairman of Etoi Clan Council, Eteidung Aniedi Ebong, on issues bordering on the election of a new Clan Head for Etoi Clan.

One of such insinuations in the false report is to the effect that I accused the Acting Clan Head of Etoi Clan of trying to prevent the election of a new Clan Head, among others.

“On the strength of the foregoing, I wish to state categorically that I, Eteidung (Apostle) Essien Solomon Essien, Village Head of Mbiabong Ikot Antem, was never at anytime, interviewed, either directly or indirectly by any journalist on the issues of the election of a new Clan Head of Etoi Clan. That my opinion or view was never sought and same had, neither did I sign, endorse or authorize anyone, whosoever to sign or endorse any press statement to that effect.

“That I was shocked to see the said story, which is totally a figment of the faceless author’s, and sponsor(s)’s imaginations. That as the Secretary of Etoi Clan Council, I am aware of the ongoing process to elect a new Clan Head in accordance with the laid down laws, customs and principles.

“That, while I dissociate myself in entirety from the concocted story which is nothing but an attempt to cause tension and bad blood, I hereby call on my subjects, colleagues and indeed the general public to discountenance same, even as I have sought the legal advice of my lawyer on the next line of action on the unfortunate but false story”.
