The new governor of Edo State, Sen Monday Okpepholo said he was heartbroken by the dilapidated state of schools in Benin, the state capital. The governor who disclosed this on Wednesday after paying unscheduled visits to two schools lamented that no child should have to learn in the condition of schools he saw.
In a post-event release, Sen Okpepholo described the situation as a painful reality his administration must change by priotizing education in the state.
The governor said “Today, I visited two schools in Benin and was heartbroken by the state of their dilapidated buildings. No child should have to learn in such conditions—it’s a painful reality we must change and a reminder of why we must prioritize education”.
While reiterating his resolve to give Edo children the foundational education they deserved, the governor continued: “During my campaign, I promised to rebuild our schools and give our children the foundation they deserve.
These visits reaffirm my commitment to that promise. We will immediately begin assessing these schools and ensuring the necessary steps are taken to restore them. Together, we will create a brighter future for every child in Edo State”
Sen Monday Okpepholo who was sworn in as Edo State governor penultimate week, won the gubernatorial election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC). He succeeded Mr. Godwin Obaseki of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) who governed the state for eight (8) years.
