…how jobseeker, Iniubong was killed

A State High Court sitting in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State has sentenced Mr. Uduak Akpan to death by hanging for gruesomely murdering Iniubong Umoren.

In his verdict, His Lordship, Justice Bassey Nkanang who held that the prosecution Counsel has proven its case beyond reasonable doubt noted that Uduak’s sentencing would serve as a deterrent for others who might wish to take to heinous crimes.

Iniubong, an enthusiastic job seeker and recent graduate of Philosophy from the University of Uyo, was tragically killed by Uduak Akpan while pursuing her dream of a better future.

Uduak who had pleaded not guilty when he was first arraigned in 2021 had claimed in his initial statement that the late Iniubong died as a result of fight that ensued between the two of them.

It was gathered that Iniubong had posted on her Facebook account that she was seeking for any available job as she was graduating from the university.

On seeing the post, Uduak Akpan in a chat, offered to help her get a job, which they both scheduled to meet for a supposed interview.

It was learnt that upon arrival at the slated location which turned out to be a somewhat deserted vicinity, Iniubong, sensing danger, alerted her friends via texts and audio messages.

According to claims, Uduak Akpan who had sought to have canal knowledge of the now deceased Iniubong against her consent, was not satisfied after his first round of sexual escapade.

As gleaned from the audio message of the traumatized Iniubong in the course of her struggle for life, she was killed gruesomely by Uduak Akpan. Her decomposing body was later exhumed by security agents from a shallow grave as was buried by her attacker, Uduak Akpan.
