The prospect of bumper harvest in Kebbi state has begun to manifest itself with an early harvest of millet planted this cropping season by farmers in Bagudo Local Government area.

This was made known through a press release today, signed by Abubakar Mu’azu Dakingari, Chief Press Secretary, Government House.


According to the statement, millet in large quantity and of high quality cultivated this wet season has been harvested in Zagga, Kende, Bahindi, Bagudo and Ka’oje districts indicating good agricultural year with economic prosperity.


The statement further adds that farmers in the area were thankful to God, attributing the bumper harvest to early rainfall and timely distribution of fertilizer to all categories of farmers.


The Commissioner for Agriculture Barrister Attahiru Maccido confirmed the good news and gave an assurance that, Kebbi state government would sustain the provision of farm input and fertilizer to farmers in the state to maximizing yields.
Reports from Bagudo Local Government however indicate an invasion of farmlands by quela birds in parts of the area destroying variety of crops.

Chairman of the Local Government Alhaji Muhammadu Kaura Dan Hakimi Zagga who attested to this, said the commissioner for agriculture has made it clear that appropriate measures have been taken for aerial spray against the pests.


He solicited for quick response by the state government to wiping out the birds completely to forestall threats of crop loss.
The chairman thanked incumbent administration of Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu for effective supply of fertilizer to farmers which facilitated improved agricultural activity.
