…Security Chiefs, Royal Fathers, CSOs, others pledge compliance

In a fatherly move to sue for peace in the face of rising agitations, Governor Pastor Umo Eno Tuesday hosted a town hall meeting tagged “Come Let’s Us Reason Together” at the Banquet Hall, Government House, Uyo.

The meeting, which was attended by a cross-section of citizens, including labour leaders, students, youths, civil society organizations (CSOs), traditional rulers, and traders, aimed at finding solutions to the current economic difficulties facing the state.

Governor Eno sued for continued peace and dialogue, reeling out massive people-oriented interventions to provide succour for the people. The stakeholders, who were initially planning a national protest, backed down and denounced the planned protest in the state.

Instead, they urged citizens and residents to partner with the government to find solutions to the current economic difficulties. Security agencies assured the public of safety of lives and property, advising workers and citizens to go about their businesses without fear.

In a significant move, Governor Eno announced the constitution of a petroleum task force comprising petroleum chain stakeholders, labour, and civil society groups to ensure cost regulation and product availability.

The town hall meeting was seen as a positive step towards addressing the economic challenges facing Akwa Ibom State, with stakeholders committing to work together with the government to find lasting solutions.
