Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has extended his humanitarian assistance to Zainab Jummai Ado Bayero, the daughter of the late Emir of Kano, along with her brother and mother, by settling their rent bill at Morning Side Suites in Victoria Island, Lagos. This intervention came just hours before their eviction deadline.

The Governor’s spokesperson, Mr. Sanusi Bature, arrived in Lagos early on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, to meet with the apartment’s General Manager, Mr. Sunel Kumar, who had threatened eviction by 3 pm. The Governor acted in response to Princess Zainab Bayero’s public plea for help, highlighting their neglect by the royal family since the death of Emir Ado Bayero.

Since the Emir’s death, Zainab, her brother, and their mother have struggled due to being denied their inheritance and abandoned by the royal family. Zainab’s half-brothers, Aminu Ado Bayero and Nasiru Ado Bayero, serve as Emirs of the Kano and Bichi emirates, respectively.

Zainab, a passionate documentary producer, recently worked on a project about her late father, Ado Abdullahi Bayero. Upon receiving Governor Yusuf’s representative in Lagos, Zainab and her mother expressed deep gratitude for the timely intervention that prevented their eviction.

“You came at the right time. We were about to be forcefully evicted for our inability to pay the rent. They said today was final, we must move out by 3:00 pm, and you arrived just fifteen minutes before the deadline. They had already mobilized youths to remove us from the apartment. Alhamdulillah for your arrival,” Zainab said.

Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, representing the Governor, stated that the intervention was necessary because many citizens of Kano felt the situation reflected poorly on the royal family and the state. “They are not only members of the Royal Family, but they are also our Muslim sisters and brother currently in need,” Bature said.
