…risks ‘Vote of No Confidence’
The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP Ibesikpo Asutan Chapter, has called on the Council Chairman, Mrs. Akon Asuquo, to retract her statement that “there is no PDP in Ibesikpo Asutan” and accordingly apologize or risk a vote of no confidence for utterances unbecoming of executive chairman.
Barely a hundred days into the new administration of Pastor Umo Eno, the ruling party in Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area paints a damning picture of the party in a deep crisis arising from the alleged council chairman’s declaration that “there is no PDP in Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area”.
The Chapter Legal Adviser of PDP, Barr. Mike Okon, flanked by other chapter officers, made this known to newsmen that the body language, sound bites, and actions of the council boss, Mrs. Akon Asuquo, had killed PDP, and caused the party to cease to exist in the area noting that, the recent disingenuous interview granted by the council chairman has exposed the irresponsiveness of the council boss to the plights of the party. “The utterances are dysfunctional to the growth and stability of the PDP in Ibesikpo Asutan”, the legal Adviser added.
“The party has been maligned, marginalized, and demoralized by the council chairman who had bluntly rebuffed attempts to have an audience with the party whenever she was approached”, says Unyime Robert, the chapter Publicity Secretary.
In turn, the Deputy Chapter Chairman, Daniel Usoro, described the recent interview with select publishers of local tabloids midwifed by the council boss in her country home, as self adulatory to launder image and deceive the public now that transition is in view, pointing out that the party on whose platform she came into power was not represented and was never mentioned throughout the interview. “All things being equal, it is the party and members of the exco who should best sing her praises and not vice versa”.
The Chapter Secretary; Mbosowo Essien and Youth leader; Ndiana Obot, drew attention to the interview of the Chairman which was published in the Daily News wire of 22nd – 28 August 2023, page 5, and the Pioneer Newspaper as bereft of any mention of the PDP existence in Ibesikpo, which confirms her perfunctory disregard to the party running the council as a family affairs without external personal assistants.
In the same vein, a senior member of the PDP who did not wish to be mentioned in this report, has called for a thorough investigation of the Ibesikpo Asutan Council boss who has been accused of “…running helter-skelter, lobbying to be appointed as Transition Chairman”.
Efforts to get the Council Chairman’s reaction on the allegations were abortive at press time as she was said to be indisposed.
