A sustainable and vibrant economy, is dependent on the passionate involvement of youths in practical agriculture.

The Commissioner for Agriculture & Rural Development, Dr. Offiong Offor made the disclosure today, Friday, 29th December, 2023 on Arise Akwa Ibom Radio Program at 94.5 Passion FM, Uyo.

Offor noted that, Governor Umo Eno has graciously called on every Akwa Ibomite to go back to the farm or choose any of the opportunities along the value chain, be it production, processing or marketing, in order to boost food production.

On the recent flag-off of Ibom Model Farm at Nsit Ubium Local Government Area, she stated that the farm on completion will combine crop and animal production, with components of training, tourism and entrepreneurship, where youths will be trained on integrated farming techniques to implement in any agribusiness of their choice.

“When so many youths engage in agriculture. If you aggregate their involvement, it will meet our food sufficiency needs. Let’s support the agricultual blueprint as stipulated in the ARISE Agenda.

Regarding prospects for the coming year, the Commissioner revealed that, value chain development on crops where we have comparative advantage will be government’ focus, as we lend support to all categories of farmers in training, inputs and access to finance to ensure food sufficiency.
