The Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ, Akwa Ibom State Council, has applauded the member representing Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency, Rep. Unyime Idem, for consistently empowering his constituents over the years.

The commendation is contained in a communique released after the Union’s December Congress, which held at the NUJ Press Centre, Information Drive, Uyo, on Wednesday, December 20, 2023.

The NUJ, after extensive appraisal of Rep Idem’s performance so far in the National Assembly, gave him a deserved pat on the back and urged him to continue as his good works have not gone unnoticed.

Congress further commended the lawmaker for facilitating the employment of two members of the Union – Comrades Dianime Uko and Etieno Ibanga in a federal establishment, as well as the ICT support to Journalists from his federal constituency.

Recall that Rep. Unyime Idem, in fulfillment of his campaign promise to empower 5000 persons in his Federal Constituency, empowered the last batch of 2500 persons on Wednesday.

The beneficiaries had completed skills acquisition training in their different chosen spheres and were given start-up- packs.

In a breakdown of the 2023 empowerment, 13 persons got cars, 43 motorcycles, 4 industrial machines, 128 generators, 98 e-pads, 181 sewing machines/accessories, 118 standing dryers/accessories, 126 clippers/generators/accessories for constituents.

31 received business grants, 50 persons – scholarships, another 50 – bursary, 100 Persons Living With Disabilities will get support, while 1558 businesses received support.

The first 1000 were empowered in 2020, second 1500 in 2021 and the last batch of 2500 on Wednesday, December 20, 2023.
