…Labour Unions set for showdown
*as Rivers State pays N85,000.00; Kaduna, N72,000.00
Kaduna state has begun implementation of the New Minimum Wage recently passed into law across Nigeria.
While south-south states like Akwa Ibom and Cross River have yet to begin payment, Rivers State has begun to paying workers under its employ the new minimum wage of N85,000,000. This was confirmed by a secondary school teacher in Port Harcourt, capital of Rivers State.
Also confirming the commencement of the new minimum wage regime, Office of the Accountant-General, Kaduna state in a release tagged “N72,000 Minimum Wage Implementation” called on workers in the state to report any underpayment to appropriate quarters.
The statement dated 28th November, 2024 and signed by the Director of Funds, Office of the Accountant-General, Yahaya Saidu read “The Office of the Accountant General has successfully implemented the directives of H.E Senator Uba Sani @ubasanius regarding the implementation of the N72,000 minimum wage for November 2024 salaries.
If you encounter any evidence of payments below N72,000, please do not hesitate to submit a complaint to the Queries & Enquiry Unit of the Office of the Accountant General, Kaduna State”.
Our paper gathered that Labour Unions in some states are threatening to begin an indefinite strike action should the state governors fail to begin the implementation of the new minimum wage regime.
