Chairman of UBA Group, Mr. Tony Elumelu, CFR, has called on entrepreneurs the world over to consider taking time out periodically, to reflect on their business journeys with a view to creating avenues to learn from past successes and mistakes. The Nigerian-born renowned economist was named in 2015 as one of the 50 richest men in Africa. UBA (United Bank for Africa) is one of the largest banks in Africa.

Elumelu who is also the founder of the Tony Elumelu Foundation, while making his views known via his verified social media handles today, on the sidelines of this year’s annual UBA Group Chairman’s Forum, also acknowledged what he termed as diverse challenges in the financial services operating environment.

The renowned entrepreneur cum philanthropist said “The UBA Group Chairman’s Forum is a yearly convening of the CEOs and Chairmen of all the 24 countries that UBA Group operates in across 4 continents: Africa, America, Europe and the Middle East.

The Forum is the highest level of UBA Group’s governance and decision making where we collectively review the current state of our unique corporate journey, reinforce our vision to be Africa’s Global Bank and strategically deliberate on what lies ahead for our Group.

“Today, the financial services operating environment is a fast evolving one that presents diverse challenges as well as opportunities. Therefore, we as a Group must constantly revalidate our operating standards to ensure that we maintain our cohesiveness, market competitiveness and leadership.

I encourage all entrepreneurs to periodically take time out to reflect on their journey. This creates an avenue to learn from past successes or mistakes. It does not matter how big or small you think you are, as I often tell my children: the journey of one mile starts with a step. And that step must make sense and be purposeful. We must stay focused until we get to the final destination”
