Students from Ikono Local Government Area, under the umbrella of the National Association of Ikono Students (NAIS) University of Uyo Chapter will on Thursday, 16 September 2021 roll out the drums to celebrate a doyen in the global media industry, Mr. Emmanuel Ufon as a result of his contributions to human capital development.
This was contained in a release made available to journalists on Monday by the President of the students body, Mr. Emma Effiong.
The Statement reads in part, “It is a welcome development to have Ufon’s acceptance to grace our occasion, sequel to our regards on him.
” The young doyen in the global media industry, himself a proud Son of Ikono Local Government Area has made us proud in his giant stride contributions to human capital development in Ikono/Ini as a social engineer of repute with useful information dissemination, advocacy and defense put up through the instrumentality of the media”.
It could be recalled that
the Editor-in-Chief of the Cradle Newspaper and a famous TV program producer titled “The Cradle TV Show on NTA”, Comrade Emmanuel Ufon last year and early this year used his media platform to showcase the deplorable road situation in Nkwot Ikono, Ukpom, and Ediene a gesture that evokes the sympathy and drew the attention of Ikono people both in the United State of America and at home as they contributed money through self-help project to construct some parts of the road of which the governor of the State, His Excellency, Gov Udom Emmanuel is about to award contract on a 12-kilometer road construction project to his community.
“Currently he is leading the campaign for Ikono/Ini People from Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District to be given their due recognition at Asan Ibibio as the Cradle of Ibibio nation through the position of Ntisong Ibibio, a position that has never in history been given to us, rather the Ibibios in Eket and Uyo Senatorial District.
” Emmanuel who is currently doing his second degree after returning from his PGD course on Public Relations/Advertising at the Prestitous International Institute of Journalism (IIJ) was the NAIS President in 2011 – 2014 before he left for the Compulsory Youth Service at Ekiti State and returned in 2015 to established his media firm which he is earning a living from till date.
” He made us proud in 2012 as the first students organization President that led a campaign in support of the free and compulsory education policy of the state under the then Governor of Akwa Ibom State, His Excellency Gov Godswill Akpabio with 10,000 branded exercise books to public primary and secondary schools in Ikono. The first students President that his Organisation unveiled a 6-Page Calendar against the 1-page almanac production by students bodies, the first to honor leaders in 2013 with plague award which is invoke today.”
The organization release further gave an account of Mr. Ufon’s struggle with other Ikono/Ini Media Professionals across the global community for the emancipation of his people to include the hosting of the unprecedented rural Economic Summit in a rural community of Ikono/Ini in collaboration with the two local government council chairmen and stakeholders with the theme: Exploring the Economic Potentials and Possibilities in Ikono/Ini – Leveraging on opportunities from Government/Non-Agencies.
