…as Akwa Esop Imaisong Ibibio Pays Condolence Visit

The Leadership of the Apex Socio-Cultural organization in Ibibio land, Akwa Esop Imaisong Ibibio, led by Ntisong Essien Ekidem paid a condolence visit to commiserate with the family of late Engr. B. G. Bassey on Thursday, 4th February 2021.

Bassey, a titleholder of Mkpisong in Ibibio Nation, a committed member of Akwa Esop Imaisong Ibibio, a Professional Engineer of repute and a patriotic son of Akwa Ibom State who contributed to the building development of Ewet Housing Estate, Uyo, was born in the year 1945, in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State and served the different ministries, agencies, and parastatals in the state.

In his tribute, Ntisong Ekidem said “He was such a committed Ibibio son, a patriot, with uncommon brilliance, who deployed his intellect to shape the development of his tribe, the State, Church, and village”.

The Wife of the deceased, Dr. Dora Bassey while receiving the organization, appreciated the leadership of Akwa Esop Imaisong Ibibio for the respect given to her deceased husband on the condolence visit and the gift items presented to the family.

She said the husband was sick for a while, but that God wishes to call him back home, and she thanked God for keeping her and the children alive to bid him farewell.

On his part, the Son of the deceased, Engr. Don Bassey thanked the organization for standing by his family in their moment of grief and promised to emulate the patriotic footprints of his Late Father in the course of his tribe.

Fielding questions from journalists at the events, Senator Aloysius Etok paid glowing tributes to the deceased, recalling his days with him.

“B.G, as we use to called him was a good man, very hardworking, I knew B.G as a staff of the then Cross River State Housing Development, and when we came here he became the pioneer MD. of APICO, he was so concerned and focus in the development of Akwa Ibom State to the extent that he took it upon himself to ensure that Ewet housing Estate developed.

“In 1988, I was one of the Consultants whom he consulted to source for funds for the development of this estate and we were able to source for thirteen million naira which he used to open this estate. He took it as a personal commitment and did it as his project even when he was moved to the Ministry of Works.”

Others at the events were, Mkpisong Edem Akpainyang, Dr. Okon Emah, Mkpisong T.O. Akpan, Mkpisong Inyang Ebong, Obongawan Essien Ekidem, Atai Imo Essien, Atai Uwana, Ukai Ndifreke Usanga, Ukai Emmanuel Ufon, UkoIbibio Victor Nkanta, amongst others.

Late Engr. B. G. Bassey will be laid to rest on Friday, 19th February, 2021 at his country home in Nsit Ubuim Local Government Area. Funeral service to be conducted by the Lutheran Church of Nigeria at Government Primary School Ikot Okwot Ubuim, Nsit Ubuim LGA.
