…Ini Ememobong, Okpolupm Etteh indicted
By our Reporter
Political stakeholders in Okobo local government area of Akwa Ibom state have vowed to resist the attempt by the former Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Barr Ekpenyong Ntekim, to force on them his nephew, Mr. Sylvester Attah, as Chairman of the Council, in the forthcoming local government election, after he has almost succeeded in installing his younger brother, Essien Ntekim, as Councillorship candidate in his Ward.
The resolution was part of a Press Release by a group known as Okobo Concerned Political Stakeholders Forum signed by Ben Eyo Asuquo as Chairman, Engr. Effiong Attah as Secretary, and five others, for and on behalf of the Forum.
Our correspondent reports that the stakeholders in the release, have warned Ntekim not to treat Okobo as “…his private political enclave, where he must decide who gets what, why and when”.
Parts of the press release stated: “We wish to remind Barr. Ekpenyong Ntekim that his brother, Hon Eyo Eyo Ntekim of the Eta Clan extraction (Nung Atai Ube Ward 2), was the Chairman of Okobo local government council under the Zero Party between 1996 and 1997.
“Let Ekpenyong Ntekim be reminded also that he made Bassey Ntekim, another of his brother, the Council Secretary between 2008 and 2009.
Barr. Ekpenyong Ntekim must not also forget how he forced that same Bassey Ntekim on Okobo people as the Chapter Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, between 2012 and 2016.
“Ekpenyong Ntekim must as well recall that he was not the only Lawyer in Okobo in 2008 when he was appointed the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, a position he held till 2015”.
While indicting the immediate-past State Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Comrade Ini Ememobong, who is now the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, and Mr. Okpolupm Etteh, his Special Duties Counterpart, in the “…plot to impose Sylvester Attah on Okobo at all costs”, the release continued:
“While we will resist vehemently the imposition of Sylvester Attah on us as our party – the PDP – Chairmanship Candidate, we wish to remind Barr Ekpenyong Ntekim that Okobo is not, and will never be his Ward, Nung Atai Ube Ward 2, where he has almost succeeded in forcefully installing his younger brother, Essien Ntekim, as the PDP Councillorship candidate.
It will be revealing and thought-provoking to note here that ‘NTEKIM’ FAMILY IS NOT THE ONLY FAMILY IN OKOBO!
“It will also be instructive at this juncture, to warn the immediate-past PDP State Publicity Secretary who is now the newly appointed Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Comrade Ini Ememobong and his colleague at the Special Duties Ministry, Mr. Okpolupm Etteh, to steer clear Okobo politics.
“We must state here categorically that we have been properly and reliably briefed of Ini Ememobong and Okpolupm Etteh’s plans to bring Ekpenyong Ntekim’s brother (Bassey Ntekim) as Secretary of the Election Committee in Okobo in order to perfect their inordinate ambition of installing Ekpenyong Ntekim’s nephew, Sylvester Attah, as the next Chairman of Okobo. This, the entire Okobo people shall resist vehemently!
It is also pertinent for us to note here that we are still unable to correlate Ekpenyong Ntekim’s political actions with his new found ‘song’ of Odu Clan oppressing the Eta Clan in the Okobo-speaking area of the local government”.
The Stakeholders also gave a summary of zoning structure as contained in a table attached to the release to wit: “Ekpenyong Ntekim and his co-travellers, must be reminded in case they have forgotten, or educated, where they ‘feign’ ignorance, that in summary of elected Chairmanship in Okobo local government area till date, the Eta Clan has taken four turns, while Odu has done only two turns (see the attached table)
“Therefore, Ekpenyong Ntekim must never be allowed to connive with outsiders, whosoever, to scuttle the naturally, morally and politically adopted zoning in Okobo local government area. Okobo has been enjoying peace; let no man’s greed and selfishness be the cause of any avoidable chaos in our peace-loving local government area.A word should be sufficient for the wise”
