Anti-vices advocacy group, School to School Peace Initiative (SPI) has commended Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, for banning cult groups and cult related activities in the state.

The governor exercised his powers in Section 70 of the Criminal Code Law, Cap. 38, Vol. 2, Laws of Akwa lbom State, 2000, to make the pronouncement.

SPI, in a statement signed by its Executive Director, Comrade Oliver Cromwell, described the move as “a step in the right direction in the quest of preserving societal values and safeguarding the state.”

Decrying the high prevalence of cult related activities in the state, SPI called on all sectors of the society to support the state government’s action.

“The proscription of cult groups groups is a welcome development that must be embraced by all and sundry, to stem the tide of violence which most times leads to loss of lives and properties”, part of the release reads.
