• Urges Constituents to Prioritize Peace

Hon. Okpolupm Etteh, the Federal House Representative for Eket/ONNA/Esit Eket/Ibeno, has issued a plea to residents of his constituency, urging them to embrace peace and unity amidst escalating tensions and violence in Eket, Esit Eket, and Ibeno Local Government Areas of Akwa Ibom State.

The local governments have been embroiled in conflicts over the ownership of Stubb Creeks, leading to recent protests resulting in loss of lives and property damage on all sides.

Expressing concern over the situation, Etteh, in a press release, called on all involved parties to exercise restraint and opt for dialogue, particularly since the dispute is awaiting resolution by the Federal High Court, Uyo Judicial Division.

He characterized the crisis as unnecessary, emphasizing that the tragic events resulting in loss of lives and property have only deepened wounds and fostered discord among the constituents.

Etteh emphasized, “We must prioritize peaceful coexistence and mutual respect for one another, regardless of our ancestral origins, against all odds and provocations. The inflammatory remarks and publications escalating tensions and disrupting the daily lives of our constituency members were regrettable and uncalled for. We can handle this situation better.”

Commending Governor Umo Eno for his timely intervention and emphasis on safeguarding lives and property, Etteh remarked on the critical role played by the governor in preventing further escalation of the situation.

“May we all be granted the opportunity by God to rebuild trust, strengthen bonds, and navigate towards sustainable development and prosperity for our constituency within Akwa Ibom State,” he concluded in prayer.
