Amid worsening political crisis in the oil-rich Rivers State, President of Nigeria, His Excellency, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has distanced himself from the imbroglio, stressing that his major consideration would be to ensure that the affairs of the State was run in such a manner that would deliver dividends of democracy to the people.

President Tinubu whose message was delivered today during a TVC programme; Politics Tonight, by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Chief Ajuri Ngelale assured that he would not take side on the matter.

It would be recalled that the immediate-past governor of Rivers State and current Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Wike has been entangled in a ceaseless political war with his successor and political son; His Excellency, Sim Fubara.

The crisis has snowballed into impeachment threats against the incumbent governor, leading to fractionalization, removal and counter-removal of Speaker of the State Assembly.

Reacting to the crisis, the Presidential Spokesman however maintained that President Tinubu will not allow anyone stiffen or frustrate the operations of the Rivers State Government.

Ngelale stated thus while responding to question on the position of the Presidency that “…I believe that anyone who believes that by their actions; whether he’s from the federal level or the state level or the legislative branch in the state, or the executive branch in the state. If they are banking on Mr President taking sides in this matter, they are mistaking and they would be disappointed.

“The President will not do that. What he will do is to ensure that everybody has what they need in order to work. And he’s also going to ensure that any attempt to stiffen or frustrate the operations of the Rivers State Government from conducting its affairs in a way that would benefit the Rivers people, That is not going to be allowed by this President or anybody else.

I think there’s the need for all stakeholders to understand that the President will not take side and they need to focus in on governance and delivering the dividends of democracy to the people of Rivers State, and that should be the only consideration until the lead up to 2027 when we can start talking about politics”
