The Chairman, Union of Progressive Minds, UPM, Akwa Ibom State, Rt.Hon Edet George, has urged members of the group across the state to keep faith with the All Progressives Congress, APC, assuring that the party will take over the governance of the state, come 2023.

George, a former Caretaker Chairman, Nsit Atai local government area, stated this on Monday, August 10, 2020, during the group’s tours to Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District zone of the UPM. The event was held for Abak 5 axis of Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District at the Government Technical College, Abak, while those from Ikot Ekpene 5, met at Bonotel Hotel, Ikot Ekpene.

The tour, according to the Chairman, is part of the organisation’s initiatives aimed at feeling the pulse of members in view of the hardship occasioned by the global pandemic called Covid-19.

Union of Progressive Minds is an umbrella body of progressive organizations in the state supporting the APC.

Addressing heads of its affiliate groups during the tour, the Chairman appreciated them for turning up to accord his entourage warmth reception, urging them to remain focused on the ideologies, aims and objectives of the UPM.

George said “As you all know, Union of Progressive Minds is a platform for various sociopolitical organizations working for the success of APC in Akwa Ibom state”.

He continued: “Although the 2019 elections were concluded, we, as a group, still feel that we must go round to share with our members in their pains occasioned by this global disease called the Coronavirus. 

The leadership of UPM wishes to encourage you all to continue supporting the APC, knowing full well that ongoing happenings in the party will help reposition it for victory, come 2023″.

On the activities of UPM, the group’s helmsman said “UPM has well-planned empowerment programs for members. We are working to partner with relevant federal government agencies and financial institutions to secure soft loans for our members to do small scale businesses.

What we are presenting today is just a token to express our concerns to all our members in this trying period of covid-19. We are hoping very soon, better and bigger things will come and we shall always share together”.

Others who spoke glowingly of UPM during the events included the Secretary- Pastor Nyakno Umoh, Director; Contact and Mobilization- David Moses and Treasurer- Dr (Mrs.) Theresa Edem.

High points of the occasions were sharing of palliatives to the group heads present, who expressed appreciation to the leadership of UPM for remembering them at their time of needs.
