A 12-year-old Nigerian- British kid, Chika Ofili, emerged as one of the youngest Mathematics scholars in the world after discovering a new mathematical formula that solves several division problems swiftly.

He made the discovery while completing his school homework assignment.

BACKGROUND

Meet Chika Ofili – a 12-year-old Nigerian boy that has discovered a new mathematical formula. He becomes youngest Mathematics scholar after discovering his new formula.

Chika Ofili, received the ‘TruLittle Hero Awards‘ for discovering a new mathematical formula.

The awards was presented to Ofili at an annual ceremony that recognizes, celebrates, and rewards outstanding achievements of remarkable children and young people under the age of 17 years all over the United Kingdon.

According to Ofili’s teacher, Mary Ellis – who is also the head of the Mathematics department at Westminster Under School, he (Ofili), discovered the formula while solving a holiday assignment.

Ellis had reportedly given the young man a book, which contained several divisibility tests used to quickly work out if a figure is exactly divisible by the numbers 2 to 9, however, the book had no memorable test for checking divisibility by 7.

Ofili devised a new formula and backed it up with algebraic proof.

In his formula, you take the last digit of any whole number, multiply it by 5 and then add it to the remaining part of the number to get a new number. If this new number is divisible by 7, then the original number is divisible by 7.
