The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly has formally announced its Principal Officers for the 8th Assembly.
Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Udeme Otong at Plenary on Tuesday, announced Hon. Sunday Udofot (ONNA) as the Leader of House, with Rt. Hon. (Barr.) Otobong Bob (Nsit Ubium), as the Deputy Leader.
Similarly, the Speaker named Rt. Hon. Effiong Johnson (Mbo) as the Chief Whip, as well as Hon. Sampson Idiong as Deputy Chief Whip of the House.
Also at Plenary, the Speaker announced the constitution of an ad-hoc committe to spearhead the selection of Chairmen and members of 23 Standing Committees of the House.
Chaired by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Udeme Otong, the Committee has Hon. Aniefiok Attah (Nsit Atai) as Secretary.
Members of the Committe include the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Kufreabasi Edidem (Itu), Rt. Hon. Asuquo Udo (Ikono), Rt. Hon. Mfon Idung (Ika/Etim Ekpo), Hon. Uwem Imoh-Ita (Mkpat Enin), Hon. Emem Udom (Ukanafun) and Hon. Uduak Ekpo-ufot (Etinan).
Others are Hon. Selina Ukpatu (Ikot Abasi /Eastern Obolo), Hon. Jerry Otu (Ikot Ekpene/Obot Akara), Hon. Bassey Pius (Okobo) and Rt. Hon. Effiong Johnson (Mbo).
The Speaker urged the Committe to report back to the House within 24 hours.
In the meantime, the House has adjourned its Plenary to Thursday, June 22, 2023 at 10am.
