COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AT THE END OF ITON ODORO GENERAL ASSEMBLY HELD ON MONDAY 28TH DECEMBER, 2020.

It was moment of Joy and happiness in Iton Odoro community as eminent sons and daughters of the community held its Annual General Assembly at Iton Odoro Civic centre, On Monday 28 Dec, 2020.

The 2020 General Assembly was presided over by Barr. Solomon Abai. He was supported by Mr. Aniefiok Umo, Mr, Emmanuel Umoeka, Prof. Mathew Ukpongson, Captain Bassey Idiong, Engr. Unwana Jacob, Otuekong Success Umoh.

Barr Abai, thanked God for keeping all participants alive despite the trials of 2020. He admonished everyone to toe the path of peace and progress. He also appealed that, all court cases involving traditional Council and individuals be withdrawn and settled at home. He enjoined everyone in the Community to imbibe peace and harmony and forgive one another. He reminded the gathering that more developmental projects could only be witnessed where there is peace in the land.

The village head H.R.H Eteidung Philip Idiong Welcomed everyone to the meeting and thanked God for the healing process that has taken place in the village. He advised all and sundry to work towards peace and development of the Community.

Also Speaking, High-Chief, Elder, A. U. Umo thanked Iton Odoro sons and daughters in Diaspora for finding time to participate in 2020 Village Assembly. He specially appreciated Barr Solomon Abai for excellent coordination of the meeting and for ensuring that its objectives were achieved. Also, Captain Bassey Idiong was commended for organising football match in the village to mark Iton day celebration.

The Assembly passed the following resolutions:
1.That all lands and community’s assets shall not be annexed, disposed, sold or transferred to any individual or group of individuals, without the consent of the community sitting in a General Assembly.

  1. That the senior citizens of the community especially those who have served in one capacity or the other should be honoured with letter of commendations for their services to the community.
  2. That God’s given infrastructure through the Government such as roads, water, electricity, educational facilities, etc be maintained and kept in good conditions for the benefit of our people.
  3. Henceforth individual who form the habit of collecting money from herders and give them access to people farm lands to destroy crops and other belongings shall be made to face the full weight of the law.

ADMINISTRATION/TRADITIONAL MACHINERY OF THE COMMUNITY

The Village Assembly, after due deliberations unanimously
dissolved the Interim Government. Thereafter, elected new officials to serve in the Central Working Committee for a period of two years.

The new members of Central Working Committee(CWC) are:

The Traditional Council constitutionally is headed by The Village Head H.R.H Eteidung Philip Idiong. It comprises all heads of the various families in the community as members.
