The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Akwa Ibom state has directed it’s executive committees at various levels in the state to embark on sensitization on ways of preventing the novel Corona Virus.

The directive was contained in a release dated March 23, 2020, and signed by the State Publicity Secretary of the party, Comrade Iniobong Ememobong, a copy of which was obtained by our paper.

The statement which directed the party officials to pay attention to churches, markets and other such places in the rural areas reads: “In response to the ravaging incursion of corona virus in our country and the need to sensitize the populace on preventive measures, the State Chairman of our party, Obong Paul Ekpo has directed all Chapter and Ward Executives of the Party to undertake rigorous sensitization exercise in their jurisdictions.

“The aim of this exercise is to adequately arm the people, especially those resident in rural areas, of the deadly virus and ways of preventing its spread. The executives must pay special attention to markets, churches and village halls.

“Preventive methods like social distancing, regular hand washing and the use of hand sanitizers are helpful and hereby seriously encouraged.

We trust that this situation will soon be resolved and normalcy returned”.
