There are fears that many Nigerians may test positive for the Corona Virus in days to come following today’s confirmation that another governor of the most populous black nation has been confirmed to be carrying the disease.

Few days ago, governor of Bauchi state, Bala Mohammed, had tested positive along with the Chief of Staff to Mr. President, Abba Kyari.

About three aides to the presidential Chief of Staff are currently receiving treatment following their positive status for the pandemic.

As at the time of this report, no fewer than 97 Nigerians were said to have tested positive for the virus.

In a related development, the governor of Kaduna state, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, has also been confirmed as one of the high profiled carrier.

In a statement he personally signed, El-Rufai regrettably confirmed his positive status.

His Excellency said in a release dated March 28, 2020: “Earlier this week, I submitted a sample for the Covid-19 test. The result came in this evening, and I regret to say that it is positive.

According to the protocols for managing Covid-19, I am in self-isolation as required by the case management guidelines of the NCDC for a someone that is no showing symptoms”.

While charging residents of the state to to uphold all the necessary preventive measures, the governor continued: “I wish to appeal to the people of Kaduna State to continue to closely observe the preventive measures already announced.

It is most important that everybody should do their utmost to stay safe, stay home and stay alive.

The Deputy Governor is chairing our Covid-19 Taskforce and will continue to issue statements from time to time”.

As at press time, results of other governors and top politicians in the country, most of who had close contact with the quarantined presidential aide, were still being awaited.
