Operatives of the Anti-kidnapping squad attached to the Imo State Police Command have cracked down on the notorious terrorist terrorizing the people of the state.

The suspect identified as Chidiebere Nwuze is said to be the lead driver of their deadly group. He confessed to have served as their driver whenever they were going for operation in any community of the state for over two years.

In his confessional statement, the suspect confirmed to be 38 years of age and a native of Amuzu community in Aboh Mbaise local government area of Imo state.

He alluded to have been the one who drove the gang the day they attacked and killed a police DPO and one Inspector at a filling station in Mbaise, few months ago. The suspect further stated that they have been operating within the Mbaise and Ngor Okpala axis of the state.

The police operatives who have been on the lookout for him, stormed his hideout in Umuogu community on Monday, 8th April.

Upon sighting the operatives, he opened fire in a bid to escape and evade arrest. He was however overpowered by the superior fire power of the operatives and surrendered after sustaining gun shot on the right leg.

A pump action gun and pistol were recovered from him.

He confessed further to knowing Ishaka, Ebube and Other deadly leaders of the gang who earlier had been neutralized in December 2023.

The commissioner of Police, CP Danjuma Aboki commended the operatives for their doggedness and ordered a detailed investigation into the matter so they could unravel the whereabouts of his other members.

The CP further assured members of the public of the command’s unwavering determination to ensure a peaceful and safe Imo state for all residents.
