…moves to constitute State Caretaker Committee

A COMMUNIQUÉ ISSUED DURING THE MEETING OF AKWA IBOM STATE LABOUR PARTY (LP) STAKEHOLDERS HELD ON SEPTEMBER 20, 2024,

(A) Whereas The Meeting of Akwa Ibom State Labour Party (LP) Stakeholders was held on September 20, 2024 at the residence of the Party Leader and 2023 Governorship candidate; Obong Uduak Udoh, Ph.D;

And Whereas The Meeting which was chaired by Obong Dr. Uduak Udoh, also had at the head table Secretary of the now defunct LP State Transition Committee (STC) and CSF Deputy State Coordinator 1, Comr. Nsongurua Etim as Stakeholders’ Meeting Secretary;

Others at the head table representing various groups were Chairman of Akwa Ibom State NLC Political Commission; Comr. Monday Essien Essien, South-South Coordinator of CSF; Engr. Pius Ebong, and Admin. Secretary ObiDatti PCC, Akwa Ibom State, State Coordinator of Big Tent; Mr King Akpabio, Ag. State Coordinator of CSF; Deacon Anthony Abonyi, Coordinator of Diaspora Support group for ObiDatti Presidential/ Uduakobong Udoh Governorship Campaign 2023; Pst. (Mrs) Martina Umana, LP Chairmanship candidate, Obot Akara LGA; Ambassador Enobong Inyang;

(B) After an exhaustive deliberation of matters on the agenda of the meeting:

  1. The Stakeholders at The Meeting unanimously passed a Vote of Confidence on the Akwa Ibom State 2023 Labour Party Gubernatorial standardbearer; Obong Dr. Uduakobong Udoh as Leader of the Labour Party and pledged unalloyed support to his leadership.

2. The Akwa Ibom State Leadership and Stakeholders of the Labour Party hereby congratulate the Sen. Dr Esther Nenadi Usman-led 29 member National Caretaker Committee of our great Party and the two worthy sons of the State namely: Hon. Dominic Essien and Mr. Chris Uyot on their appointments in the National Caretaker Committee.

3. The Meeting also appreciates the leadership of Their Excellencies; Mr. Peter Obi and Dr. Alex Otti for practically ending the devastating leadership crises in the party and setting the party on the path of peace, reconciliation, progress and unprecedented greatness.

4. In line with the peace and reconciliation objective of the National Caretaker Committee, The Meeting constituted and inaugurated a 5-member Peace and Reconciliation Committee with the following persons: I. Pst. (Mrs.) Martina Umana -Chairperson.
II. Mr. Kingsley Akpabio -Member
III. Rev. (Dr.) Robert Ulor -Member
IV. Mr. Solomon Ekong -Member
V. Mrs. Ekaette Akpan -Member

The Peace and Reconciliation Committee is to conclude its mandate and submit its report within one (1) week.

5. The Meeting also commended the LP Chairmanship and Councillorship candidates in the October 5 Local Government election in Akwa Ibom State for their courage and pledged the party’s resolve to support them morally and financially as well as joining them in their campaigns.

6. The Meeting also resolved to commence the process of constituting the State Caretaker Committee in line with the template as shall soon be sent by the National Caretaker Committee in order to reposition the party in the state.

7. The Meeting further resolved that next enlarged stakeholders meeting be held in a week’s time where more Stakeholders and members of the National Caretaker Committee are expected to be in attendance.

8. The Meeting unanimously made a commitment to reposition the Labour Party as the only political vehicle for the emancipation of the people of Akwa Ibom State through winning subsequent elections in the state in particular, and Nigeria in general.
