We’re taking over in 2027′ -Senate President insists

President of the 10th Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, Distinguished Sen. (Dr.) Godswill Obot Akpabio (CON) has reiterated that as the number three citizen of the country, he would do everything politically and democratically needed to ensure that his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) wins the next governorship election and take over the leadership of Akwa Ibom State. 

Chief Akpabio, a former governor of the state and current Senator representing Akwa Ibom Northwest (Ikot Ekpene) Senatorial District at the National Assembly, stated this in Uyo on Thursday, January 18, 2024 while addressing a Stakeholders’ meeting of the APC in Akwa Ibom Northeast (Uyo) Senatorial District. The Senate President was accompanied to the meeting by his colleagues in the National Assembly.

Regretting the inability of APC to clinch governorship victory in the last election which he blamed majorly on the internal wranglings within the Party’s leadership in Uyo Senatorial District, the Senate President thanked the party leaders in the District for putting behind their political differences.

Akpabio, an Ex-Minister of Niger Delta Affairs and former Senate Minority Leader however urged all the Stakeholders of the APC in the Senatorial District to take their destinies in their hands, assuring that sooner, more indigenes of the state would benefit from the dividends of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration of Nigeria.

Earlier in his remark, the immediate-past SSA to the President on Niger Delta Affairs and one of the 2023 APC gubernatorial aspirants, Sen. Ita Solomon Enang, announced to the gathering that the skirmishes within the party which resulted from the conduct of the last governorship primary had been resolved.

While acknowledging the State APC Leader, Sen Akpabio’s efforts at repositioning the party for victory, the former SSA to the President on National Assembly (Senate) matters called on everyone to bury their differences and come together for the success of the party in the state.

Also at the well-attended meeting were the State Chairman of the APC, Obong Stephen Ntukekpo; 2023 Senatorial Candidate for Akwa Ibom Northeast Senatorial District, Dr. (Rt. Hon) Emaeyak Ukpong and a former Commissioner and 2023 gubernatorial aspirant, Prof. Chris Ekong.

Others were Special Adviser to the Senate President on Media and Publicity, Hon. Eseme Eyiboh; former Commissioners in the state, Prof. Etok Ekanem and Dr. John Harry, as well as APC State Officers, Chapter Chairmen, women and youth leaders and a host of other stakeholders of the party from Uyo Senatorial District.

Highpoint of the meeting was a presentation of a graven statue and a souvenir by Dr. Emaeyak Ukpong on behalf of the Senatorial District Leadership of the party to the Senate President.
