The Executive Governor of Yobe State, His Excellency, Hon Mai Mala Buni FCIA, today, Tuesday, distributed a total of 1,780 male and female goats to 890 women across the state.
Buni, who is also the National Chairman, APC Caretaker and Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee, while making the presentation said it was in furtherance of his sustainable empowerment programme for the women and the vulnerable in the state.

According to a release signed by Jalo Buni, Special Assistant on Social Media to the Governor, the benefiting women were drawn 5 each from the 178 electoral Wards, adding that women who constituted a good percentage of Yobe’s population could not be neglected.

“The 890 beneficiaries were drawn 5 (five) each from the 178 electoral Wards of the state. His Excellency, Governor Mai Mala Buni is keenly interested in empowering the women who constitute a good percentage of our population. His Excellency has reiterated that the state will not have a meaningful development if this segment of our population is neglected”, the statement explains.

The release also quoted the Governor as saying that the distribution of the male and female goats was to provide for the women a sustainable means of livelihood.

“The Governor has assured the good people of the state that his administration would continue to support women and vulnerable persons to be self reliant with a dignified and sustainable means of livelihood. His Excellency has also renewed his commitment to achieving the United Nation’s sustainable development goals.

This administration has engaged holistic approach to the fight against poverty and unemployment with women, youths and vulnerable persons as targets. 

The Governor has also highlighted that his administration would continue to seek collaboration with development partners and other stakeholders to improve the lives of the people.

His Excellency has reaffirmed his administration’s declaration of a state of emergency on basic education, so as to provide a very sound foundation for our education system in order to improve the level of literacy in the state”, the release adds.

According to the release, the Governor has appealed and urged the beneficiaries to work hard towards becoming proud owners of herds of goats in the next few years. “These are investments into your future, insha Allah”, Hon Buni said.

While assuring that his administration had more plans to support the people with more empowerment programms, the Governor also appealed to the people of Yobe State not to relent in their prayers for the full return of peace and prosperity to the state and country.
