The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Etim Ekpo Chairmanship race, Gideon Uwa, has declared that he will he make the local government area a cynosure of development when elected into office, come October 5th.
Speaking on Thursday at the commencement of the Local Government elections Ward Tour in Etim Ekpo Ward 9, 10 and 11 respectively, Uwa hinted that he has the needed wealth of experience having served the youth leadership cadre in various capacities, promising to further the indices of governance and accelerate the pace of grassroots development.
“I am emboldened to stand before you my people as the mantle bearer of our party. The issue of hardship is can be attested to by everyone here but we are here as agents of progress to reset the development of Etim Ekpo. I recall how peace was restored to communities in Utut Annang clan, it was through the benevolence of the PDP that our leader facilitated the return of peace to this area and we must maintain that peace so that our women and children can go about their various endeavors free from rancour”.
“I will not count grading of roads as an achievement, we will open up our rural roads, give interest-free loans to our women to engage in various agricultural activities, we will give bursary and scholarship to our youths and ensure that our primary health centers can function optimally”, he added.
Presenting the candidates to the electorates who came out in large numbers, the Etim Ekpo Chapter Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, Mr. Owoidighe Udoka said PDP is the only party that plays politics for national interest.
“You have to be proud of the PDP, if you look at the sterling achievements of our great party in Akwa Ibom State since 1999, you will be convinced that we have done well. If you compare that with the hardship we’ve experienced since 2015 since APC took over power, you will understand that no reasonable person can support the APC. In PDP, we are not in politics for selfish interest, we are in politics to make Nigeria better that is why you can find many laudable projects of the pdp in all the nook and crannies of Etim Ekpo.”
Addressing the rally, the Etim Ekpo Chairman Transition Committee, Hon. (Elder) Ekpuk Eshiet affirmed that “the people have spoken, and the voice of the people is the voice of God. We can now affirm that Gideon Uwa is God’s will for Etim Ekpo, I can only say congratulations to the people of Etim Ekpo because we will experience human and infrastructure development renaissance under his reign.
In their separate remarks, the Chairman of the Campaign Council and member representing Etim Ekpo/Ika State Constituency, Rt. Hon. Mfon Idung and Director General of Campaigns, Hon. Aniekan Dan who spoke about Gideon Uwa in glowing terms expressed confidence that Gideon Uwa will perform well and will replicate the Governor’s ARISE Agenda in Etim Ekpo for the betterment of the people.
In his remarks, the Political Leader of Etim Ekpo Local Government Area, Emmanuel Enoidem SAN described the chairmanship scribe as loyal, truthful, sincere and committed member of the party who will make Etim Ekpo proud.
“For seventeen years, Gideon Uwa has never been given any political appointment, but he serves the party with uttermost dedication, which is the reason he has been favoured today to become Chairman in the Local Government. I am urging our youths today to shun violence, cultism and youthful exuberances so that you have a meaningful life. I call on the youths to emulate Gideon Uwa both in character and forthrightness, adding that loyalty pays, just like it has paid off for Gideon Uwa, Choice Lazarus and other candidates of the party.
Enoidem urged the electorates to vote for all PDP candidates for a new Nigeria that the citizens desire, describing the power of the thumb as the best weapon to vote in credible, competent, visionary and purposeful leaders that would transform the nation and redirect its destiny to the path of growth, progress, development and prosperity.
