*Says Akwa Ibomites are set to vote for Labour Party

Ahead of Saturday, March 18, 2023 Governorship and State Assembly elections in Akwa Ibom state, the Governorship candidate of the Labour Party; Obong Uduak Udoh has reaffirmed his belief that he would triumph at the poll, stressing that he has not and will never step down for anybody at any cost or condition.

The governorship hopeful who made this known yesterday in Uyo, the State Capital, during a Media Parley with newsmen, asserted that it was rather laughable to hear those who claimed earlier that they had all the super political structures to win elections in the state, now trying to use his name, the Obi-Datti Movement or Labour Party’s name fraudulently, to win elections.

Responding to questions on his alleged stepping down or alliance with the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) or Young Peoples’ Party (YPP) the Uyo-born Computer Scientist cum politician said “I have not stepped down and will never step down for anybody or party. I have not also formed any alliance with anybody or political party so far.

However, politics is a very dynamic game that requires in some cases, alignment and realignment. My party and I are ready for any candidate or political party that may wish to join us. Don’t forget that we won convincingly the last Presidential and National Assembly elections held on February 25 in the state. As the most popular political party today in Nigeria and Akwa Ibom state, we are fully on ground and we are strong and big enough to accommodate all interests. So, we keep our doors open for anyone wishing to join us.

It might interest you to note that those who are trying to ride on my popularity and that of my party, never saw anything good in LP. They were mocking and making jest of us that we don’t have the structure to win elections. But we shocked them in the last outing. We won in most of the local government areas. Forget about what the INEC announced. We have the authentic results to prove that the Labour Party won the election in the state and we shall tender them at appropriate time”.

Speaking on those behind the stepping down rumours, he said “You know, this is politics where some persons believe in sharp practices. When we started building our structures in the state, so many people came to join us. And you know in such situations, some dubious people will come for dubious intentions. So, when they had the opportunity, they struck.

“They collected monies from different parties and claimed to have endorsed them. Of course, the same group of people can not endorse two different candidates of two different parties, vying for the same office in the same elections and you expect any sane person to take them seriously. They claimed to be OBIdients; that’s fraud. All OBIdients and real members of Obi-Datti Movement anywhere in Akwa Ibom state are Labour Party members and are in full support of my governorship aspiration.

As far as the March 18 governorship election is concerned, I’m the most qualified, I’m the most prepared, I’m the most competent and baggage-free governorship candidate with capacity to serve my people. I am in the Governorship race to win and usher in a people-oriented governance that will facilitate the coming into being, an Akwa Ibom of our dreams.

I’m not stepping down for anybody. We worked hard to win the hearts of Akwa Ibomites. When we were going to markets, streets and churches and so on, talking to people, they were sitting down, planning to use the people’s money to buy the same people on election day. But after the election of February 25, they realized that the people are wiser now. They discovered that the electorate are not willing to sell their future again for crumbs.

“So after the shocking outing, they’re now looking for a popular candidate and a popular political party to use their names. They won’t succeed. If they want to win elections, which is impossible, let them go out and talk to people like I am doing. Of course they know that the people will not listen to them again. Akwa Ibom people are yearning for a change and they have found me as the epitome of the New Era. I have a pact with residents of Akwa Ibom State and they believe in me and are convinced that I will not fail them”
