Senator-elect for Akwa Ibom South, Dr Ekong Sampson will tomorrow, Tuesday June 13, 2023, be inaugurated into the 10th Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The ceremony will take place at the National Assembly Complex, Three Arms Zone, Abuja by 10am.

Dr. Sampson, a former Chief Legislative Aide in the Senate, will be sworn-in alongside 108 others, comprising both new and returning Senators. The two other Senators-elect from Akwa Ibom are Godswill Akpabio, former Governor and Rt Hon. Aniekan Bassey, immediate past Speaker of the State House of Assembly. The Green arm of the National Assembly – the House of Reps will also be Inaugurated.

Dr. Sampson goes into the Red Chambers with an impressive resumé. He is a former Head of Council, Mkpat Enin and former two term State Lawmaker. Under Gov. Udom Emmanuel, Barr. Sampson served as Honourable Commissioner in a number of ministries, last of them being, Environment and Petroleum Resources.

As representative of an oil rich multi-ethnic region of Akwa Ibom State, Dr. Sampson is reputed as a thoroughbred bridge builder, well versed in oil politics. He holds a Ph.D in Law with strong biases in oil industry law and the environment.

The about to be sworn-in Senator is also well respected as a moving body of knowledge, his understanding of Nigeria and his informed perspectives on key national issues. He is an author of several internationally acclaimed books and life patron of Uyo Book Club, a notable intellectual community. He is clearly one to watch in the 10th Senate.

Subsequently, ahead of tomorrow’s inauguration, the Senator-elect has extended invitation to stakeholders, erstwhile co-contenders across party lines and indeed, the entire people of Akwa Ibom South to grace the occasion, which will also be televised Live on many national media.
