Akwa Ibom State Governor, His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, will today, Friday 29th December, 2023 officially launch the state’s patrol gunboats.

In a statement made public by the Honourable Commissioner for Internal Security and Waterways, Gen. Koko Essien (Rtd), the event is scheduled to hold at NNS Jubilee (Navy) Jetty, Ikot Abasi by 12noon.

He noted that the state government has purchased 14 gunboats, which will be used by security operatives to ensure the safety of those engaging in marine business and the overall safety of the state’s waterways.

Recall that the Governor, during his electioneering campaign had promised that his administration will work with the Nigerian Navy to provide security to the state’s waterways, as well as put a stop to the issue of sea pirates.

“For those in the riverine areas, we will continue to work with the Nigerian Navy and provide them with more gunboats to ensure that our waters are safe for our people”

“We will provide security and ensure that the issue of sea pirates will be a thing of the past and that you do your businesses successfully,” he said.

Today marks the beginning of the actualisation of this campaign promise by Governor Umo Eno who is poised to guarantee the safety our fishermen and travellers.
